NEVER SUCH INNOCENCE is the acclaimed narrative recital of words and music from the First World War by Christopher Kent (actor) and Gamal Khamis (piano), first performed during the Somme 100 commemorations in 2016 and subsequently seen in theatres, concert venues and festivals throughout the UK.


In their acclaimed narrative recital NEVER SUCH INNOCENCE actor Christopher Kent and pianist Gamal Khamis trace the story of nineteen year-old WW1 conscript Private Percy O’Key, setting his real-life letters and diaries alongside words by writers such as Wilfred Owen, Edward Thomas and Vera Brittain and piano music of the period by composers including Elgar, Ravel, Debussy and Schoenberg. It is a compelling journey from innocence to loss, told with unflinching clarity and compassion.

NEVER SUCH INNOCENCE was written by Christopher Kent and first performed in 2016.It toured in the UK extensively through 2017-18, culminating in memorable performances as part of the 2018 Armistice commemorations, including two acclaimed appearances in London's West End.


NEVER SUCH INNOCENCE is being revived on 10th July 2021 as the first part of THE LOVE AND WAR TRILOGY when Christopher Kent and Gamal Khamis will perform all three of their narrative recitals on one day, with NEVER SUCH INNOCENCE at 2.00pm, ODYSSEY -WORDS AND MUSIC OF FINDING HOME at 5.30pm and ENOCH ARDEN by Strauss/Tennyson at 8.15pm.
